THE NOTORIOUS MRS. EBBSMITH
The Notorius Mr. Ebbsmith was a play by Sir Arthur Wing Pinero. First produced on 13 March 1895, with Mrs Patrick Campbell playing the lead role of Agnes. Agnes is a woman,who has left her husband for her lover Lucas Cleeve (played by John Hare). The play deals with the attempts by her husband's family to part her from Cleeve, and her gradual disillusionment with him as he realises that he does not share her views on the freedom to love without marriage.
